Our Responsibility pt2

We have had our Carbon Vehical Footprint calculated. For the 2009 main event we have been told our wagon will use a Total Car Footprint of 0.47 tonnes of CO2. For this we wanted to offset far more than we are producing and will be.

According to carbonfootprint.com "Each tree planted "offsets" your environmental impact by "breathing" in about 1 tonne of CO2 emissions over its lifetime. It's estimated that the average person needs to save about 7 tonnes of CO2 per year. So planting just 7 trees each year is one strategy for achieving this. The trees also provide sustainable habitat for wildlife and will enhance the natural landscape with native broad-leaved trees."

Instead of planting just one tree and saying "done", we are going to plant 15 trees at a personal cost of approximately £190.

This will not be a one off quick fix carbon offset and we intend to monitor our training days and yearly events. Making improvements where possible on equipment, resources and vehicle logistics. Trying to make reductions rather than just offsetting.
